Bushido literally means " the way of Samurai warriors," and is a code of conduct that places a stress upon self-discipline, courage, honor, noblity, frugality, loyalty, and self-sacrifice.
The concept of Bushido is heavily influenced by Zen Buddhism. All the Japanese martial arts, such as Kendo, Judo, Sumo, Aikido, and Karate, are closely linked to the spirit of Bushido.
There are seven virtues associated with Bushido:
- Gi - Rectitude
- Yu - Courage
- Jin - Benevolence
- Rei - Respect
- Shin - Honesty/Trust
- Meiyo - Honor
- Chugi - Loyalty
